Awareness of our mortality and our tendency toward sin inclines us to cling to the pleasures and securities of the material world, which then allows the devil to tempt us away from God. Therefore, Christ took on human nature in order to do battle with the devil and help us overcome sin. The world remains good because God created it, but is under the influence of the devil. As we will see later on, Christ, by his suffering, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension, overcomes death and opens the gates of heaven so that sin and death would not have the last word over humanity! This is what Christ came to do for each and every one of us, He wants us to share in His Divine Life. Let us return to the words John 1:10-14: He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, but the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him.
